It’s Not Magic, It’s Maintenance

It’s Not Magic, It’s Maintenance

This phrase is one that I repeat often. And today I wondered if other organizers are saying these words to their families and clients. I did a quick search and found this great blog post by Andrea Dekker: https://andreadekker.com/its-not-magic-its-maintenance/

Andrea’s article is a quick read that highlights the way I live—just do the task now and your home will always be (mostly) tidy.

But then I read the comments from her readers, and it gave me other points of view to consider.

Organizing and being “tasky” comes naturally to me. Like Andrea, I have been doing the maintenance steps of cleaning and organizing for so long that it feels natural.

However, everyone is wired differently. My clients tell me they know they could do the organizing work without me, but having me there helps them dedicate time to the task and also motivates them to get the work done.

So yes, it’s true. There is no magic. It’s maintenance that makes organizing work over the long term.

But maybe there is some magic in having help.

Some clients need help with strategy for how to tackle organizing. Some clients need inspiration for organizing solutions that will work for them. Some clients need to allow themselves time to do the work.

Every client wants to know there is hope…that their mess isn’t the worst, that they don’t need to feel embarrassed or ashamed, and that they can live an organized life.

Maybe you need to declutter and get some systems in place that make maintenance achievable. Maybe you don’t know where to start because you are overwhelmed.

If you need help getting to your more organized life, it’s okay to ask for help.

Give me a call so we can get started. Just one session will make a difference in creating your organized life.
